San Diego in January

On January 8th we flew in to San Diego for a credit union conference. We stayed at La Costa Del Mar, an older and very nice hotel. On Monday we were able to take an excursion as soon as Scott finished a morning meeting. We went with Mike and Margaret Williams to Yorba Linda to view the birthplace of Richard M. Nixon and see the Library there. Scott loves anything "Presidential" and touring the President's Libraries is something we plan to do if we travel within the vicinity of one. We had already toured the JFK Library in Boston and thoroughly enjoyed it. We definitely were not disappointed with this one. In fact, I came away with a new appreciation of President Nixon, his lovely wife Pat, and his family. Did you know he played the piano? His father built the house he was born in out of a kit! Can you imagine reading the instructions on that? Hahahaha!

The interesting thing about these statues was that they were NOT bronze figurines. They were plaster of paris. The clothes were real clothes and everything was just painted to appear bronzed.

This was the Marine One that Richard M. Nixon and his family left the White House in after his impeachment.

One of my favorite quotes of his was "Only if you have been in the deepest valley, can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain." I think I liked it so much because I felt he definitely experienced both.
